Freedom Trail Field Trip: Pirates and Patriots

Looking for a tour where your tour guide will dress up in silly clothes to tell you a story about historical places?  Look no further than the Pirates and Patriot’s tour presented by the Freedom Trail foundation! The tour is currently $13 for adults and $7 for children under 12 (not too bad). Note: I guess you’re supposed to bring a tip for your tour guide. For me, this was embarrassing because I never carry cash!

Ready for their walking tour
Our tour guide (she was fantastic!)

We were originally going to go to this tour with the National Parks Service (because it’s free!) but the “Government Shutdown” threw a wrench in our plans, and we had to go for a Plan B. I have to say, however, that we were not disappointed!

Boston Tea Party museum
Original State House where the Declaration of Independence was read, and location of the Boston Massacre

The tour goes to several different locations along the freedom trail, including the site of the Boston Massacre, the Boston Harbor and the Fort Point Channel near the World Trade Center.

We made some great new friends and spent time with some old ones while learning a bit more about piracy during the 18th century and the cat-and-mouse games between the Pirates and the UK Navy.

This tour was great fun, reasonably priced and kept us moving while learning some unique facts about American History. We give it a big “thumbs up” for your homeschool group or family.
