There’s a new iPad/iPhone application that you just might want to download for your next family game night. It’s called Space Team. It is a free application by Sleeping Beast Games that makes you work cooperatively with 1-3 others (up to 4 players). You read the top of the screen which will say things like, “switch the wollygobbler.” The person who happens to have the wollygobbler then has to switch it, or your space ship will burn up and you will all be destroyed. This is happening simultaneously on all the screens which basically results in everyone shouting and trying to keep your ship together, laughing and having a great time.
Spaceteam is a cooperative party game for 2 to 4 players who shout technobabble at each other until their ship explodes. Each player needs an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.
You’ll be assigned a random control panel with buttons, switches, sliders, and dials. You need to follow time-sensitive instructions. However, the instructions are being sent to your teammates, so you have to coordinate before the time runs out. Also, the ship is falling apart. And you’re trying to outrun an exploding star.
This game is hilarious. If you have kids who can read, they can play this game. Since our household is split between Apple products and Android products, I am hoping that they come out with a version for Google products sometime in the near future.
What can kids learn from playing this game? Cooperation, social skills and teamwork. Maybe the OTB Homeschoolers should have a tourney!?
