We are not a sports family. My kids don’t play any sports, and we really don’t regularly watch sports on TV except during the World Series and the Superbowl and really, that’s only for social reasons. But when we had the opportunity to get some cheap tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters, I was all over that! After all, they were in Scooby Doo!
The kids didn’t know what to expect, and I really didn’t know how to explain. I did my best to tell them that it’s a basketball team, but really, they’re performers. Within the first few minutes, my kids were in stitches with the antics of the show.
What was really impressive to me was that these athletes have to be so well rounded in their abilities that they can sing, dance, act, interact with the audience and be comedians. The show was fantastic and it introduced my kids to basketball as a sport which if I had tried to get them to a “real game,” they might not have been willing.
If the Globetrotters come to your town, I highly recommend that you go. Even if you’re not big sports fans, it is well worth your time. It even put a smile on the face of my grumpy teenager.
